The review is tomorrow, and you’re opening tabs.
Goals are in a spreadsheet. Project updates are in another system. There was a nice message from a client, but now you have to find it. And where did you put the notes from your last check-in?
You want to give this person a thoughtful review. First, you have to piece everything together.
Sound familiar?
The preparation shouldn’t take over
Gathering information can take up the time you wanted to spend thinking about the conversation.
What has this person accomplished? Where have they grown? What’s been difficult, and what would help them move forward?
Those questions deserve your attention. Having the information together makes it easier to work through them.
Look beyond what happened last week
When you’re pulling a review together from memory and scattered notes, recent events are often the easiest to recall.
But what about the project they finished three months ago? The steady improvement in their metrics? The times they stepped in to help someone else?
Keeping track along the way gives you more to draw from. You can recognize progress, discuss challenges with specific examples, and give someone credit for work that might otherwise get overlooked.
Bring the pieces together
Performance Scoring brings metrics, projects, tasks, feedback, coaching, check-ins, and recognition into one platform to support performance conversations.
That gives managers a place to look at results alongside the ongoing feedback and conversations that help explain them.
A missed goal might lead to a conversation about competing priorities. An improving metric might show that coaching is helping. A colleague’s shout-out might highlight a contribution worth recognizing.
The information helps you ask better questions. There’s still a person across the table whose perspective matters.
